For over 30 years I have guided others
through personal development and pursuits and helped them find the spirituality
within other lives. Prior to my decision to devote myself to full-time, holistic practice, I spent 23 years working with and advocating for survivors of sexual abuse, people with disabilities, and people struggling to get their lives back on track.
As a survivor of sexual abuse, I integrate traditional therapy with Western and Eastern teachings. Through Holistically Balanced Living healing is achievable. As an advocate for people who have been abused, I have spoken with over 100 therapists concerning the problems of recognizing sexual addiction/compulsion in patients at the “Sex, Love, and Addiction,” SENTARA Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA.
I counseled Hampton Roads Chaplains, Eastern Virginia Medical School students, area psychiatrists, psychologists, and parole officers on many occasions concerning the damage incest and sexual addiction cause. I addressed the need to confront and address drug or alcohol addictions before dealing with the underlying abuse addictions and sexual compulsions.
Developing and leading support groups for survivors of sexual abuse and parents whose children had been molested has been a hug part of my history,
September 29, 1992, I testified before the Commission on the Reduction of Sexual Assault concerning the effects of sibling abuse on the community and the services that needed to be provided. Virginia has revamped their sexual assault laws, and now provides services to protect survivors of sibling abuse.
In 1981 I adopted a baby boy, born with a severe form of spina bifida, who is a triplegic, and medically fragile. He require 24-hour care. I apply holistic approaches to both his personal care and the stresses associated with long-term care.
In 1995 my oldest son died after living twelve years with AIDS. During his illness I expanded my understanding of this devastating disease by taking courses and conferences in the treatment and care of people living with AIDS.
Holistically Balanced Living has given me the passion, courage of conviction, and strong sense of self to survive the stresses and challenges of daily life with deep peace and boundless love.
