Pomegranates
Pomegranates originated in tropical Asia but have been cultivated throughout the Mediterranean and the Middle East.  The name pomegranate evolves from Middle French, pomme garnete, meaning "seeded apple". Sometimes it is referred to as “Chinese apple”. Pomegranate's botanical name translates as "apple with many seeds." The pomegranate's rustic beauty has long been the inspiration of poets, writers, painters and sculptors. Pomegranates are considered favored by the gods. Pomegranates burst with seeds and symbolize fertility in Chinese, Greek, Persian, Roman and Hebrew lore. They symbolize hope in Christian art and prosperity in Jewish tradition.

Scientists believe that free radical damage accumulates with age. Antioxidants may help protect the body from free radical damage. Pomegranates contain antioxidants like polyphenols, tannins and anthocyannins which removes free radicals from our body cells. It also helps in repair of cells and boosts the immune system.  Studies show that pomegranate juice limits the genetic tendency toward hardening of the arteries.
