Herbs Spices

The most important difference between an herb and a spice is the part of the plant where it is obtained. An herb is a plant that doesn't produce a woody stem. herbs tend to be leafy green substances and spices are found in plants that are tropical in nature

Many spices have antimicrobial properties (a substance that kills or inhibits growth of microorganisms). This is one of the main reasons spices are used commonly in warmer climates... warm climates have more infectious disease, and food is more susceptible to spoiling.

Some spices have dual uses, i.e.,  medicine in religious rituals, cosmetics or perfume production, or used as a vegetable.

Example: turmeric roots consumed as vegetable
                garlic as an antibiotic.

There are many similarities between herbs and spices, and though some differences are very subtle, they are valid.

Herbs have been used more frequently than spices in the medical field.
